Rediscover Your Weekend Style: A Guide for Midlife

Rediscover Your Weekend Style: A Guide for Midlife

A common conundrum amongst the women in midlife who I work with? They feel like their weekend wardrobe is stuck in a time warp.

Picture this: It's Saturday evening, and you're standing in front of your closet, staring at the same old outfits you've been wearing for years. You want to look stylish and put-together for drinks with your girlfriends. You want to be the one who walks in and everyone says, “I love your outfit!” or, “Where’d you get those shoes?” but everything feels outdated or just not "you" anymore.

As a fellow midlife mom, I've been there, and I know how frustrating it can be.

And it’s really not about the clothes. At the heart of this is your desire to show up how you want to show up—and it’s not in a low-cut, curve-hugging going-out top, but it’s also not in the boring black top you always wear for girls’ night. It’s a desire to express yourself authentically. You're not just looking for new clothes; you're seeking a way to showcase your personality and feel confident in your skin, especially during those few and far between weekend moments.

The challenge, of course, is time. Where do you find the time to figure out your style when you’re already over capacity with a full-time job, managing your household and raising your kids? It's no wonder so many busy moms default to their tried-and-true outfits, even if they truly find them snoozy.

But here's a mindset shift that can change everything: Your personal style isn't about following trends or completely overhauling your wardrobe. It's about rediscovering and celebrating what makes you unique.

Many of us fall into the trap of thinking, "I don't have time for style," or, "Fashion isn't practical for my lifestyle." But what if we reframed those thoughts? Instead, try embracing the belief that "My style is an expression of who I am, and I deserve to feel amazing in my clothes, even on busy weekends." Read that middle part one more time and make sure it sinks in, “I deserve to feel amazing in my clothes.

This shift can lead to a whole new approach to your wardrobe. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the latest trends, you can focus on curating pieces that truly resonate with your personality and lifestyle. It's about finding that perfect balance of comfort, functionality and personal flair.

Remember, you're not just a mom, a teacher, a wife, a doctor, a retiree—you're a multifaceted individual with your own unique tastes and preferences. Your weekend style can and should reflect all aspects of who you are.

So, fellow busy women, I challenge you to take a fresh look at your weekend wardrobe. Here are your two to-do’s to get started:

  1. What pieces make you feel most like yourself?

  2. What small changes could make a big difference in how you feel?

Drop your answers in the comments—let's start a conversation about rediscovering our personal style, one weekend outfit at a time.
