June has been a hot one. This being our ninth summer in Austin, it never fails that when we first tiptoe into the high 90s or triple digits, the, “was it this hot this early last year?!” debates begin. Regardless, it’s record-breaking hot so my fashion focus for this month has been staying cool, period. All of my linen pieces were—and continue to be—in heavy rotation, so much so that I may need to add another few pieces to the mix. There were definitely a few repeat favorites this month, especially when it comes to shoes. My white Birkenstock EVAs were definitely the MVP!

June was a relatively quiet, casual month. We had a bunch of family in town towards the end of May so they all departed, school let out and things slowed down. We took a quick overnight trip to Houston and had some summer fun, all of which was very casual.

Shorts looks

I love a linen or cotton button-up for summer (as seen in 1, 2, 7, 8, 9). Madewell does an exceptionally good job with these, in my opinion, and their Dobby-Striped Dolman-Sleeve Button-Up Shirt in double-gauze cotton is a favorite. Their 100% linen dolman shirt in a classic blue/white stripe is similar to what I’m wearing in #1, albeit a cropped version. Madewell gets the fit right, which is seemingly tricky to deliver on in a button-front for busty gals like me. The J Crew relaxed-fit short-sleeve Baird McNutt Irish linen shirt is another good one. It feels very high-quality and J Crew has dubbed it one of their best sellers, understandably. I bought the crisp yellow this spring and just ordered it in white while it’s on sale. It has a slightly oversized fit. Last up in this category is the short-sleeve oversized cropped crinkled gingham shirt from Old Navy (seen in 8), which is no longer available. While I really like this smaller size gingham pattern and the summery sherbet orange color, the fit isn’t nearly as good as the Madewell or J Crew shirts, particularly in the bust.

Keeping with the linen theme, I’ve been wearing a lot of my Old Navy linen shorts (from so long ago they’re no longer in my order history but there are similar options) which truthfully are probably due for an update… along with my Level 99 and Kut From The Kloth linen-blend pants (which I also can’t find online anymore).

Pants & dresses

Although I wear shorts much more regularly in the summer than I once did (more on that here), I sometimes find pants to be better at keeping me cool, and I also appreciate dresses. I really wish H&M still had kaftans like what you see pictured in 10 above but apparently, they’re focusing on oversized or pleated kaftans only this summer. I also pulled this old (read: no longer available) Current Elliott maxi dress out for an event at a winery. Any time I wear a dress in the summer it’s paired with Thigh Society’s Cooling shorts or Megababe Thigh Rescue.

You could rarely find me in anything other than a Birkenstock, the one exception being my Keen sandals in Evening Primrose which I am asked about nearly every time I wear them. I love this neon yellow color which I wear with so much, and they’re super comfortable.
