4 Lessons from My 1st Year as a Small Business Owner
JGP Styled Me turned one this spring. In some ways, it doesn’t feel like it’s been a year, and in other ways, it feels like it’s been much longer than a year. I continue to learn so much along the way. Believe it or not, “build it and they will come” doesn’t really work that way! I reflected on my first year as a small business owner and the learnings that got me to where I am today, and what I continue to do to keep going and growing.
My Personal Style Journey
I understand what you’re going through as a woman who just doesn’t feel like herself anymore in her clothing. I’ve gone through body changes—weight losses and gains, pregnancy, postpartum and now perimenopause. I get it.
A Capsule Wardrobe Won’t Fix Your Style
I hear the phrase “capsule wardrobe” at least once a day. If not from a client or potential client, I hear it on social media. Yet, there doesn’t even seem to be a consensus on what a capsule wardrobe is.
Myth-Busting What it’s Like to Work With a Personal Stylist
I work with real-life women who are ready to invest in themselves so that they understand their personal style and feel amazing when they walk out the door, wherever they’re going. I’m busting all of the myths I’ve heard about working with personal stylists but if you’ve got one I didn’t cover, drop it in the comments below and I’ll share my thoughts.
Three Ways to Wear
A lot of my clients come to me with the idea that they want a capsule wardrobe. Before we even discuss what challenges they’re facing with their wardrobe, they jump to the conclusion that they want a capsule wardrobe. I think I have social media, in part, to thank for that mindset because the idea of a capsule wardrobe is everywhere! But what my clients want isn’t necessarily a capsule wardrobe, they want the ease that they think it will give them.
What to Wear in Las Vegas in Your 40s+
It seems intuitive in hindsight, but people wear anything and everything (or nothing, in some cases) in Las Vegas. Yet, before our first trip there, I found myself Googling things like, “what to wear in Vegas woman over 40” because I truly had no idea what to pack.
5 New Beauty Products I Tried
I can’t be the only one bombarded with Jones Road ads in my Instagram feed, can I? They’ve effectively targeted all of the middle-aged women I know, or so it seems. I decided to give it a try.
Winter Break + New Services
It was a good—and long—winter break. Our daughter was off school for two and a half weeks (the longest break in the history of winter breaks) and I decided I’d truly unplug for the bulk of that time, too—and I did. It was nice. And needed. A little restful, even.
Last Minute Gifts from Amazon
At this point, there are very few places where you can order gifts and get it in time for Christmas—with the exception of Amazon (with Prime delivery). I selected 35 items at various price points that will cover most people on your gift-giving list…
How I Dress for Fall in Summer Weather
Summer has ended, at least according to social media, fashion retailers and the seasonal section at Target. Although fall doesn’t technically start til the 23rd, Labor Day is, for better or worse, the unofficial end of summer. Yet, as far as I can see, our forecast still calls for 100 degrees or higher for the foreseeable future. What’s a girl to wear in this seasonal conundrum?
What I Wore in August
August was a weird month. It felt both long and quick at the same time, and while it was only days ago, it feels like years ago. It was also a very lightly photographed month in terms of documenting what I wore.
What I’ve Been Up To
August likely seemed like a quiet month for JGP Styled Me, at least from the perspective of my website and even, to an extent, my Instagram. And while it was intentionally quiet from a business perspective, it was anything but in my personal life.
What I Wore in July
While June was pretty quiet and casual, July was livelier and gave me opportunities to dress up a little more—a date night here and there, a 24-hour getaway to San Antonio and so on. Happily, I found a couple of items I’ve been on the hunt for all summer.
What I Wore in June
June has been a hot one. All of my linen pieces were—and continue to be—in heavy rotation. There were definitely a few repeat favorites this month, especially when it comes to shoes. My white Birkenstock EVAs were definitely the MVP! Here’s some of what I wore.
Shorts Alternatives for Summer
Whether or not you are a shorts wearer, there are plenty of alternatives for summer to keep you cool and stylish.
Summer Poolside Essentials
I recently shared some of my favorite one-piece swimsuits for summer, and I have some essentials that go along with them for a perfect poolside day!
My 5 Favorites for May
This month I’ve got a little bit of everything… some fashion, some beauty, some accessories.
My Favorite One-Piece Swimsuits
I love summertime and my favorite place to be is by the pool. Living in Austin, that’s pretty much the only place to be in the summer! That’s one of the reasons I prefer high-quality swimsuits—because I wear them so frequently.
How to Refresh Your Wardrobe
In a style rut? Check out my three easy ways to refresh your wardrobe!
The Power of Three
One of the things I talk about with my clients during closet edits is what belongs in their closets. This isn’t based on any rules I’m projecting onto my clients but more so guidance that I share based on what they’ve told me about their lifestyle as well as their goals for the closet edit. One of the pieces of advice I give is what I like to refer to as “the power of three;” you should be able to wear every piece of clothing in your closet at least three ways.
